Garage Sale!
This weekend, Marta & I rode our bikes around the neighborhood to get some much needed excersise. On our trip, we came across a garage sale that was LOADED with baby gear at incredible prices. They had everything from clothing in all sizes, to changing tables, strollers, car seats & toys. We could have outfitted our baby for 2 solid years for less than 20 dollars! Unfortunately,...

Body Check: Twelve (Thirteen?) Weeks
Little Baby X is about the length of a shrimp now… almost 3 inches long.  My last ultrasound put my due date at 01/01/10, which means I’m 13 weeks pregnant and just days away from being out of this first trimester.  Earlier estimates had me at about 01/06/10, which would mean I’m 12 weeks.  Either way, my belly keeps expanding and I’m finding it harder to hide the fact...

Baby Cost Calculator →
It’s probably too difficult to estimate accurately, but according to this calculator, we’re looking at this baby costing us about $10,000. This little bugger is going to be expensive!

The Baby Room
Tom and I have started the “baby room” discussion.  We know we’d like to keep the color of the walls purple, but other than that, we are pretty open.  We like the idea of something that is classic and elegant… and also something that is going to last a few years (not overly baby). We’ve toyed with the idea of turning the room into even more of a Labyrinth...

Nipple Shields, they aren't just for wardrobe... →
Is it unreasonable that I am almost more terrified of breastfeeding then I am of giving birth?  Ever since one of my friends mentioned to me how sore and cracked her nipples were after the first month or so of breastfeeding, a little light inside my head clicked on.  Wow, breastfeeding can actually be painful. Now I know this isn’t always the case, but I can’t claim to have superhero...

Sickness...
I’ve come down with a pretty bad cold. Now I have to really keep my distance from my pregnant wife, for fear of passing the virus to her and my unborn child! This just keeps getting more difficult!

The Birth Book: Everything You Need to Know to... →
A friend of mine let me borrow this book, and I’m finding it really useful. There are so many things to think about whether I want or don’t want. And in the end, you can only plan so much before nature takes its course and kinda decides for you.  As much as I might say I want to avoid an epidural or getting induced, it ultimately comes down to the health of the baby (well, and me).  So...

Determining the Sex!
It’s interesting how divided people are when it comes to whether or not they want to find out the sex of their baby, or keep it a secret until it’s born. Marta & I have agreed that we want to know, but it’s still too early to have this answer. I have been doing some research and have discovered that there are a ton of old wives tales that supposedly can predict the sex of...

No More Wine = Lots More $$$
I’ve been doing ok having beer as an alternative to wine so as not to temp my poor pregnant wife. Last night, however, I couldn’t take it anymore and had to open a bottle so I could enjoy one of my favorite combos ever: red wine and dark chocolate. I feel terribly guilty, as I can’t even imagine how hard it must be for her to resist. I realized then that we haven’t opened...

Body Check: Nine (Ten?) Weeks
I’m hoping at my first ultrasound I can find out how developed I actually am… right now it could be anywhere from nine to eleven weeks.  So we could be talking about a grape or a kumquat.  I like how 2001: A Space Odyssey the 10 week image from BabyCenter.com looks (above).  It’s amazing how all the little details are being developed: earlobes, eyelids, fingernails, chambers of...
