It’s interesting how divided people are when it comes to whether or not they want to find out the sex of their baby, or keep it a secret until it’s born. Marta & I have agreed that we want to know, but it’s still too early to have this answer. I have been doing some research and have discovered that there are a ton of old wives tales that supposedly can predict the sex of your baby. Some of these are interesting, others are just plain stupid and laughable. Here’s just a few that I have learned about:
1. If the baby’s heart rate is greater than 140, you’re more likely going to have a girl. If it’s less than 140, you’re having a boy.
2. If the mother experiences more consistent sickness, she’s more likely to give birth to a girl.
3. If the mother “looks worse than normal” during her pregnancy, she’s more likely to have a girl (acne, bloating, thinning hair). This is because the baby supposedly “takes the beauty away from the mother”. Seriously?
4. If the pregnant mother’s belly resembles the shape of a watermelon, she’s likely having a girl. If it’s more like a basketball, she’s having a boy.
5. If you mix some of the mother’s urine with Drano and it turns green, she’s more likely to have a girl.
6. If the mother craves sweet foods more often: girl. Salty foods more often: boy.
7. If your baby was conceived just before ovulation: girl. If after ovulation: boy.
8. If the mother notices that her urine smells stronger or different, she’s having a boy.
These are just a few that I found, but there are tons more, including the “Chinese Birth Calendar”. If you are a mother, take a moment to check it out and see if it would have given you an accurate prediction! The left side of the chart represents the age of the mother at time of birth, the months across the top represent the month in which conception occurred.
