I watched a great episode of Pen & Teller’s Bullsh*t last night. It covered the topic of circumcision, something that I feel is absolutely archaic, cruel and completely unnecessary. It’s sad, because while in Europe the practice has become relatively rare, here in the U.S. we are still mutilating genitals at a rate of over 75%. The “benefits” of a circumsicion are also complete BS, with little to no medical evidence to support the stupid claims about urinary tract infections, increased risks of disease, and of course, SMEGMA!! The most common argument is that parants are concered that their child will feel uncomfortable about his genitals if they look different from the majority of his peers. How wrong is it that guys who’s genitals remain fully intact the way they are supposed to be are the ones that are seen as strange in our society. It is unfortunate to say the least. I was thinking about what it would take for the U.S. to get it’s head straight about this issue, and I came across something that could help. Perhaps if more people were exposed to these photos of male genitals that are the product of “botched” circumsicions, they might think twice about altering their babie’s perfectly normal genitalia.
