It’s hard to believe that I am almost to my six month (starts at 22 weeks). The time is flying by fast and it feels like I’m getting bigger everyday, sometimes bigger from morning to night. But at the same time, I still have an easy time forgetting I’m pregnant… until I look in the mirror. Right now it’s less of a physical feeling and just being mentally excited, and it’s not just me, Tom is getting super ancy and can’t believe he has to want until after Christmas :)
What is happening to baby?
After reading an entire chapter on POOP and its various shades and meanings in my baby book on newborns (Heading Home with Your Newborn), I was surprised to read on BabyCenter.com that my little 21-week old fetus is already producing meconium in its bowels as we speak. With 19 weeks to go, it seems like a long time to hold it in. I’m not sure I could ever last that long.
The other thing that is happening is that the baby is getting LONGER, about the length from crown to rump of a full-grown carrot. It’s hard to believe that it’s that long especially when I look down at my belly. I’m not sure how it all fits in there, and I guess it really doesn’t, which is why now is the time that those “flutters” (which I still don’t feel) progress to full blown kicks. I’m very excited to not just feel but SEE the baby move.

What is happening to mama?
Not too much apparently. Although it is getting a bit harder to sleep, and I hear that it only goes downhill from here. My minor discomfort is going to turn into full on night sweats, leg cramps, and possibly even snoring due to swelling of nasal membranes. Which means, it’s not just going to be no fun for me, but it is also going to be no fun for Tom.
Other than that I have just been feeling in major baby prep mode lately… getting registered, getting the insurance in order, enrolling in baby classes, thinking about the baby room. It seems like there is so much left to do, but at the same time I am less and less overwhelmed by the prospect of any of it. Which is a good thing too, because there are other life activities to worry about… like putting on a kickass Halloween party and designing a costume!!
